ashburg’s Collection of Yamaha Zuma, Duratrax Warhead Evo, HPI Savage X 4.6 SS, and Traxxas Revo 3.3 Information
I’ve decided that I want to try my hand at racing the Bulletproof Savage X - a truck that was built with bashing in mind. I’m confident that I won’t break anything hehe
, but as far as winning a race against Revos, I have my doubts! Unless it’s legal in the Roar Rulebook to force your competition into a wall hehee (just kidding)
Here’s what the ex Savage X Looks like set up to race…I might even lower it juuuust a tad more with the zip tie suspension limiters I’ve currently got on there.
The rims are Proline Wabash, the Tires are Proline Crimefighters - all mounted with 23mm hub adaptors:
Hpi Savage X Nitro GT2 GT-2 Truck Body Released
I think I might have to get this thing for show! WOW…Hat’s off HPI, nice body!

The ever illusive 1/2 tank lean issue is no more…at least with my Savage X. I did put a Werks Dual Chamber Exhaust Pipe on there, but it seemed to do very little for the problem.
What is the half tank lean issue - When you fill your fuel tank and your motor is then running too rich, enough to where you have to lean it out every time you fill the tank, that’s one indicator that you are having the 1/2 tank lean issue. Alternately, when you run the tank past the halfway mark down, you have to richen UP the high speed needle because it is then running too LEAN. There are several theories on why this “half tank lean issue” happens including:
“The shelf in a fuel tank that has a ’shelf’ causes a sudden drop in volume or pressure (somehow?!)” Once the fuel goes empty past that shelf in your tank (a horizontal shelf), there is evidently a change in pressure to the fuel line and the carb.
“The exhaust pipe type can cause this”. On my truck, personally, going from an HPI Ribbed Pipe to a Werks 2 chamber pipe did not change the 1/2 tank lean issue much. BUT, I do think, from what I gather, that the dual chamber pipe can have an effect on the consistency of pressure to the pressure line, fuel tank, and carb.
“A header tank will cure this”. Well, I have one of these tiny little tanks hanging on my pegboard in my garage and have yet to use it…I don’t think I need it! The New Era Tank seems to have worked for me.
and many many more tales of cures to fix this ghost of a problem…
What I think is that every truck becomes unique (when you modify this and modify that) - and every truck is going to act differently - also depending upon your location, temperature, etc.
This may work for you, it may not - but at ~$23 for the tank you’ll need and $3 for some velcro, it’s worth a try right!?

You asked for it, you got it! Here are some Duratrax Warhead and HPI Savage X Videos for you to enjoy that were contributed from some buddies of mine on the RCUniverse forum. I think Duratrax Should use the Warhead Video for their marketing!

Howdy all…thought I’d put some of my clips from a couple of Sundays ago together for somewhat of a humorous video. It’s entitled “How To Break An HPI Savage X” and is, of course, about how I broke my HPI Savage X
Feel free to post it to your website or forum
Here’s a stock pic of my New Traxxas Revo 3.3. All I’m going to do to it is put on some Proline Bowtie Tires and throw in my FM transmitter and I’ll be ready to rock and roll.
If you’re interested in the Revo 3.3 and want to chat about it and exchange ideas with other Revo fans, come on over to the Revo 3.3 thread on RC Universe!
